About REHS Journal

The Research Experience for High School Students (REHS) Journal is the world's only rigorous, double-blind peer-reviewed open-access academic journal dedicated exclusively to original research conducted by high school students. We believe exceptional scientific inquiry should not be limited by age.

🎯 Mission, Vision & Values

🎯 Our Mission

To provide a credible, rigorous, and accessible platform for high school students worldwide to publish original peer-reviewed research; to foster scientific literacy, academic writing skills, and critical thinking; and to contribute to the global body of knowledge across all disciplines.

👁️ Our Vision

To become the world's leading peer-reviewed journal for pre-collegiate researchers — recognized by universities, scholarship committees, and research institutions as evidence of exceptional scholarly achievement and intellectual maturity beyond the classroom.

⚖️ Academic Integrity

We uphold the highest standards of research ethics, following COPE guidelines, ICMJE authorship criteria, and FAIR data principles. All submissions undergo plagiarism screening, AI-content detection, and double-blind review by qualified subject matter experts.

🌍 Equity & Access

Scientific knowledge belongs to everyone. All published articles are permanently free to read under CC BY 4.0. APC waivers are available for authors from low-income countries, ensuring that financial barriers never prevent talented student researchers from sharing their work.

📖 About the Journal

📰 What We Publish

REHS Journal publishes original research articles, systematic reviews, case studies, brief communications, and perspective pieces across all academic disciplines — from molecular biology and quantum physics to economics, history, and the humanities.

Every published article undergoes our 12-point peer review framework, modelled on evaluation criteria used by leading journals including Nature, Science, PLOS ONE, JAMA, and Cell. Our standards are genuinely rigorous — we do not publish work simply because authors are young.

🔬 Who Can Submit

REHS Journal accepts submissions from currently enrolled high school students (Grades 9–12) anywhere in the world. At least one author must be a high school student; co-authorship with peers and faculty mentors is encouraged.

All submissions must be supervised by a qualified faculty mentor, teacher, or research professional who verifies the authenticity and ethical conduct of the research. No prior publication experience is required — only intellectual rigour and honest inquiry.

🏆 Why Publish in REHS Journal?

  • University applications: A peer-reviewed publication is a powerful differentiator for college and scholarship applications worldwide
  • DOI registration: Every article receives a permanent Digital Object Identifier for citability and discoverability
  • Google Scholar indexing: Articles are indexed for discovery by researchers globally
  • Author certificate: All published authors receive an official certificate of publication
  • Mentorship: Manuscript feedback from our editorial board helps develop academic writing skills
  • Open Access: Your work is freely available to every reader on earth

📅 Our Story

2024 — Founding
REHS Journal was conceived by University & Beyond as a response to a clear gap in the academic publishing landscape — exceptional high school research was being conducted worldwide but had nowhere credible to be published. The editorial board was recruited, peer review processes designed, and infrastructure built.
January 2025 — Launch
Volume 1, Issue 1 officially launched. The journal opened for submissions across all disciplines simultaneously. The Research Training Module was introduced as a prerequisite, ensuring all authors understand research ethics and methodology before submitting.
2025 (Ongoing) — Inaugural Issue
REHS Journal accepts its inaugural submissions. The editorial board reviews and publishes articles on a rolling basis. The journal pursues Google Scholar indexing, CrossRef DOI registration, and DOAJ listing to establish international discoverability.
2026 — Next Milestones
Target: DOAJ listing (requires 10 published articles), ISSN registration, ERIC database inclusion, and expansion of the international editorial board and reviewer network.

✨ What Makes REHS Journal Different

🎓 Student-First, Not Student-Only

We don't lower the bar because authors are young. We apply the same peer review criteria as leading academic journals, while providing the mentorship and feedback that help student researchers grow. Publication in REHS Journal is genuinely earned.

🤖 AI-Assisted + Human Review

Our hybrid review system combines automated preliminary screening (plagiarism, AI detection, citation verification) with human double-blind peer review. This ensures consistency and speed without sacrificing the depth of expert evaluation.

📚 Required Training Module

Unlike any other student journal, REHS requires all authors to complete our 7-module Research Training Program before submitting. This ensures every author understands research ethics, methodology, and academic integrity — raising the quality of every submission we receive.

🌐 Truly Multidisciplinary

From CRISPR gene editing to medieval history, from machine learning to social psychology — REHS Journal welcomes original research across all 12+ academic disciplines with equal rigour and enthusiasm. Interdisciplinary work is especially encouraged.

🔍 Indexing & Discovery

REHS Journal is committed to maximum discoverability for all published research. We have implemented all major academic metadata standards and are actively pursuing indexing in key databases.
